Dr. Iddo Netanyahu is an Israeli physician, author and playwright. He is the younger brother of Benjamin Netanyahu, the current Prime Minister of Israel, and Yonatan Netanyahu, who was killed leading the Operation Entebbe hostage rescue mission in 1976 and was a highly decorated veteran.
Iddo was born in Jerusalem, and spent part of his childhood in the United States. He left studies at Cornell University in 1973 to fight for Israel in the Yom Kippur War. Netanyahu served in Sayeret Matkal, Israel’s Special Forces unit, as did both his brothers. He has an MD from Hebrew University of Jerusalem School of Medicine and works part time as a radiologist at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell, New York, spending most of his time in Israel.
His book “Yoni’s Last Battle: The Rescue at Entebbe,” was published in Hebrew in 1991, and reissued in English to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Entebbe mission. The book is both an accurate, detailed account of the raid and a personal tribute to a brother and a hero. The fast‐paced text offers numerous flashbacks of the three brothers’ childhood and army service.
