Great Neck Synagogue notes with sorrow the passing of Israel Schwechter, beloved father of our member Leon Schwechter.
The period of Shiva concluding Wednesday morning Feb 24 will take place as follows. Thursday and Friday will be observed at 360 Central Avenue Apt 209, Lawrence, NY. Shiva will continue Motzei Shabbat thru early Wednesday morning February 24 at Leon’s home, 2A Woodland Place in Great Neck.
Services will be held: Shachris - Sunday at 8:30 AM, Monday at 6:35 AM, Tuesday and Wednesday at 6:45 AM.
Mincha/Maariv - Sunday thru Tuesday at 5:25 PM

Women’s Tefila meets this Shabbos afternoon at 5:30 pm for mincha. There will also be a discussion of the JOFA conference which took place this past week-end, led by Dassie Barth. Lots of exciting new issues will be discussed. Refreshments are sponsored by the Gordonson family in honor of Rita’s and Lynne’s birthdays.
Graduation Kiddush/Special Events

The weekend of June 18-19 we will be having three special events.
There will be a Friday evening program and a Saturday Luncheon to say goodbye to Rabbi Axelrod and Rabbi Moskowitz and we will be holding our Graduation/Community Kiddush.


Details for the farewell events will be announced shortly.
To participate in the Kiddush please send in your dedication to the office, whether for a graduation, simcha of any kind, a yahrzeit or just to say goodbye to Rabbi’s Axelrod and Moskowitz. The cost is $100 per family for the graduation listing and $50 for the testimonials.

The graveside funeral will take place today, Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at 2:30 PM at New Montifiore Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY
The period of Shiva, ending early Tuesday morning, February 23rd, will be observed at the Wolff home, 40 Old Pond Road in Great Neck.
Services will be held: Shachris - Thursday, Friday, Monday and Tuesday at 6:45 AM; Sunday at 8:30AM. Mincha/Maariv - Wednesday and Thursday at 5:15 PM; Sunday and Monday at 5:25 PM.

Cookie Dough Hamantaschen from Tricia Moslin
1 cup margarine
1 1/4 cup sugar
3 eggs
1/4 cup orange juice
grated rind of orange
2 tsp. vanilla
6 cups flour
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
fillings of your choice: mohn, prune,peach,strawberry,raspberry, chocolate chips,pareve special cocoa spread(yellow top). Bakers choice pastry fillings are wonderful.
cream margarine and sugar together. Mix in eggs. Stir in the orange juice,orange rind and vanilla. Sometimes I add in 1 tbsp. cinnamon.
Sift together flour,salt,and baking powder. (I do not)
Stir in gradually into wet ingredients. Mix well to form smooth dough.
On a lightly floured surface,roll out dough to an even thickness—1/4 inch
Cut into circles with a 3 inch glass or cookie cutter.
Place desired fillings in center of circle. Pinch up sides of the circle to form a triangle.
Bake at 375 about 20 minutes, or until slightly golden.
The dough can be made in a food processor. The dough can be refrigerated for several days before using. The cookies freeze well.

We regret to inform you of the passing of Carolina Galateanu, beloved mother of Victor Ancelson.
The graveside Levayah took place on Sunday, February 14th at Old Montefiore Cemetery, 121-83 Springfield Boulevard in Queens.
The period of Shiva, ending publicly Friday afternoon, February 19th, will be observed at the Ancelson home, 43 Cedar Drive, Great Neck, NY 11021.
Shachris Monday morning at 6:30 AM (Rosh Chodesh), Tuesday through Friday morning at 6:45 AM, Mincha/Maariv - Sunday through Thursday at 5:15 PM.
