Hunger Initiative “Share the Light”

December 22, 2008

The Hunger Initiative warmly thanks those who participated in the “Share the Light” Chanukah program.

From our youngest volunteers who came out early and made almost 100 Chanukah cards together with their parents; our high schoolers once again baked, packaged and delivered and of course our community members who selflessly came out in the wintry weather to make a difference. Yasher Koach to you all!

One recipient was making a menorah out of silver foil when we delivered her bag filled with candles, dreidels, soufganiot , brownies and a donated menorah. The woman had trouble expressing her appreciation and delight both for the gift and that someone remembered her. We as a community are truly making a difference. If you have cooked too much or have extra food or want to make a little extra when you are making dinner, Herschel Minster collects outside Mazurs Thursday afternoon and delivers food for Shabbat to those in need. He also collects in Great Neck during the week. You can contact him at 718 279-3989 to arrange a donation. Please keep the needy in mind, it is a terrible thing to go hungry.
