News from Youth Department
January 12, 2009
January 2009
Dear Congregants:
We are pleased to announce that this year we have record enrollments in all of our Youth Programs, with equally enthusiastic Youth Leaders looking forward to getting to know your children. Due to the high volume of children this year, we are requesting your help as parents. We welcome parents in personally encouraging your children to join our Youth Program Shabbat groups by dropping them off before you go to services.
Pre-Groups
Pre-groups is a new program in our youth department. It runs from 9:00am to 10:00am each Shabbat in the Chalfin Room, for those parents who bring their children earlier, and are not old enough to join Rabbi Jensen in his Youth Minyan. There will now be signs at both main entrances guiding parents to the appropriate rooms for your child’s group. This will hopefully end some of the confusion about where to go, and where you can find your child for pick-up at the end of groups.
Preschool Groups
The pre-school groups are growing so quickly that we have made a few changes.
The Chalfin Room will now be the mommy-and-me room for those children who can not yet separate. There will be toys and snack available to you in this room. Room 112 will be for 2-3 year olds. Room 113 will be for the 4-5 years olds. In all rooms there will now be age appropriate toys and activities. We strongly urge all parents in these two rooms to drop off your children. They will be in a safe and nurturing environment. Get to know your group leaders and let them know where you will be davening in case your child should need you.
- Preschool Groups begin at 10:00 am
- Rabbi Jensen will make Kiddush for the children at approximately 11:40 AM
- We now have a strict nut free policy in all classrooms
- 12:00pm groups end
The Shul Building
We are all partners in making the shul experience a meaningful one. A weekly rotation of volunteers from our parent body will make routine sweeps through the hallways during the morning to ensure that the children find their way to their respective programs. Those children who do not wish to join in the various programs being offered will be escorted to their parents.
Toys and Supplies
If your children come to groups on a regular basis please donate one age appropriate Shabbos used or unused toy, books and supplies. They can be dropped off in the Synagogue office (please discuss with Morah Susan Sheena if there should be any questions.) Your help in this matter will be greatly appreciated.
Non-members reading this letter and benefiting from the youth groups on a regular basis are encouraged to become members of the Great Neck Synagogue. Associate membership is available at half-price provided that your family is a member of another shul in Great Neck. Please contact the GNS office for more details.
We would like to thank the Youth Group committee for helping to implement these new structures and policies to our groups, and would like to encourage that committee to continue with their good work and helping others to comply with our new policies. As parents, your involvement in our youth program is very important and appreciated. We rely on you for your support.
