INTERMEDIATE MINYAN This past Shabbat, February 6th, the first Intermediate Minyan was held. The Minyan includes explanation of the tefilot and the Torah reading through interactive discussion during the service, communal singing, with a class following the service. In this week’s parsha Yitro the Children of Israel gather at the base of Har Sinai and receive the Torah from G-d. The purpose of the exodus from Egypt, which took place exactly 7 weeks earlier, is thus achieved. THE FLORENCE SHAFFER MEMORIAL FUND The Florence Shaffer Memorial Fund Scholarship is a program run by the Sisterhood of Great Neck Synagogue. The program provides financial assistance to help young women with some of the expenses of college in circumstances where their families are unable to provide those funds.
